Mark 10:29 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 10:29

And Jesus answered and said, verily I say unto you
This evangelist omits what Matthew relates; that whereas Peter, and his fellow disciples had followed Christ in the present time, hereafter when he appeared in his glory, they should sit upon twelve thrones, and judge the twelve tribes of Israel; see ( Matthew 19:28 ) , and where it is added to the same sense as here;

there is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sister, or
father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and
the Gospel's;
for the sake of preaching, or professing Christ, and his Gospel. The word "wife" is left out in the Vulgate Latin version, perhaps because it is not repeated in the following verse; but all copies, and other versions have it; (See Gill on Matthew 19:29).

Mark 10:29 In-Context

27 And Jesus beheld them, and said [And Jesus beholding them, saith to them], With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things be possible with God.
28 And Peter began to say to him, Lo! we have left all things, and have followed thee.
29 Jesus answered, and said, Truly I say to you, there is no man that leaveth house, or brethren, or sisters [or sistren], or father, or mother, or children, or fields for me and for the gospel,
30 which shall not take an hundredfold so much now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters [and sistren], and mothers, and children, and fields, with persecutions, and in the world to coming everlasting life [and in the world to come everlasting life].
31 But many shall be, the first the last, and the last the first.
