Now 1KingSolomonlovedmanyforeignwomen along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittitewomen,
from the nations concerning which the LORD had said to the sons of Israel, "2You shall not aassociate with them, nor shall they bassociate with you, for they will surelyturn your heartawayafter their gods." Solomonheldfast to these in love.
33He hadsevenhundredwives, princesses, and threehundredconcubines, and his wivesturned his heartaway.
For whenSolomon was old, his wivesturned his heartawayafterothergods; and 4his heart was not cwhollydevoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been.
For Solomonwentafter5Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and afterd6Milcom the detestableidol of the Ammonites.
6Solomondidwhat was evil in the sight of the LORD, and did not follow the LORDfully, as David his father had done.
7ThenSolomonbuilt a highplace for 7Chemosh the detestableidol of Moab, on the mountainwhich is eeast of Jerusalem, and for 8Molech the detestableidol of the sons of Ammon.
8Thus also he did for all his foreignwives, who burnedincense and sacrificed to their gods.
Now 9the LORD was angry with Solomon10because his heart was turnedaway from the LORD, the God of Israel, 11who had appeared to him twice,
and 12had commanded him concerningthisthing, that he should not goafterothergods; but he did not observewhat the LORD had commanded.
So the LORDsaid to Solomon, "Becausefyou have donethis, and you have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, 13I will surelytear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant.
12"Nevertheless I will not do it in your days for the sake of your fatherDavid, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.
13"However, 14I will not tearawayall the kingdom, but 15I will giveonetribe to your son for the sake of My servantDavid and 16for the sake of Jerusalemwhich I have chosen."
