that you will 1take up thisatauntagainst the king of Babylon, and say, "How2the oppressor has ceased, And how bfury has ceased!
"The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, The scepter of rulers63Which used to strike the peoples in fury with unceasingstrokes, Which csubdued the nations in anger with unrestrainedpersecution.
"The wholeearth is at rest and is quiet; They 4breakforth into shouts of joy.
8"Even the 5cypresstreesrejoice over you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, 'Since you were laidlow, no tree cuttercomes up against us.'
"6Sheol from beneath is excited over you to meet you when you come; It arouses for you the dspirits of the dead, all the eleaders of the earth; It raisesall the kings of the nations from their thrones.
"7They will allrespond and say to you, 'Even you have been madeweak as we, You have becomelike us.
'Your 8pomp and the music of your harps Have been broughtdown to Sheol; Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you And worms are your covering.'
12"How you have 9fallen from heaven, O f10star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cutdown to the earth, You who have weakened the nations!
"But you said in your heart, 'I will 11ascend to heaven; I will 12raise my throneabove the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.
'I will ascendabove the heights of the clouds; 13I will make myself like the MostHigh.'
15"Nevertheless you 14will be thrustdown to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.
"Those who see you will gaze at you, They will gponderover you, saying, 'Is this the man who made the earthtremble, Who shookkingdoms,
Who made the world like a 15wilderness And overthrew its cities, Who 16did not hallow his prisoners to go home?'
18"All the kings of the nationslie in glory, Each in his own itomb.
"But you have been 17cast out of your tomb Like ja rejectedbranch, kClothed with the slain who are pierced with a sword, Who godown to the stones of the 18pit Like a 19trampledcorpse.
"You will not be united with them in burial, Because you have ruined your country, You have slain your people. May the 20offspring of evildoers not be mentionedforever.
21"Prepare for his sons a place of slaughter Because of the 21iniquity of their fathers. They must not arise and takepossession of the earth And fill the face of the world with cities."
"I will rise up against them," declares the LORD of hosts, "and will cutoff from Babylon22name and survivors, 23offspring and posterity," declares the LORD.
"I will also make it a possession for the 24hedgehog and swamps of water, and I will sweep it with the broom of 25destruction," declares the LORD of hosts.
