And Judah gathered themselves together to ask help of the Lord,
&c.] To implore his assistance against their enemies, and his protection of them; and they met not in their several cities, but at Jerusalem, as appears by what follows: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord;
at the temple, where was the ark, the symbol of his presence.

2 Then there came some who told Yehoshafat, saying, There comes a great multitude against you from beyond the sea from Aram; and, behold, they are in Hatzatzon-Tamar (the same is `En-Gedi).
3 Yehoshafat feared, and set himself to seek to the LORD; and he proclaimed a fast throughout all Yehudah.
4 Yehudah gathered themselves together, to seek [help] of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Yehudah they came to seek the LORD.
5 Yehoshafat stood in the assembly of Yehudah and Yerushalayim, in the house of the LORD, before the new court;
6 and he said, LORD, the God of our fathers, aren't you God in heaven? and aren't you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? and in your hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.
