Hosea 9:7-17 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
7 The days of punishment1 are coming, the days of reckoning2 are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins3 are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool,4 the inspired man a maniac.5 8 The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim,a yet snares6 await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God.7 9 They have sunk deep into corruption,8 as in the days of Gibeah.9 God will remember10 their wickedness and punish them for their sins.11 10 "When I found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the desert; when I saw your fathers, it was like seeing the early fruit12 on the fig13 tree. But when they came to Baal Peor,14 they consecrated themselves to that shameful idol15 and became as vile as the thing they loved. 11 Ephraim's glory16 will fly away like a bird17-- no birth, no pregnancy, no conception.18 12 Even if they rear children, I will bereave19 them of every one. Woe20 to them when I turn away from them!21 13 I have seen Ephraim,22 like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place.23 But Ephraim will bring out their children to the slayer."24 14 Give them, O LORD-- what will you give them? Give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that are dry.25 15 "Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal,26 I hated them there. Because of their sinful deeds,27 I will drive them out of my house. I will no longer love them;28 all their leaders are rebellious.29 16 Ephraim30 is blighted, their root is withered, they yield no fruit.31 Even if they bear children, I will slay32 their cherished offspring." 17 My God will reject33 them because they have not obeyed34 him; they will be wanderers among the nations.35
