Isaiah 27 (New International Version)
Deliverance of Israel
1 In that day,1 the LORD will punish with his sword,2 his fierce, great and powerful sword, Leviathan3 the gliding serpent,4 Leviathan the coiling serpent; he will slay the monster5 of the sea. 2 In that day6-- "Sing7 about a fruitful vineyard:8 3 I, the LORD, watch over it; I water9 it continually. I guard10 it day and night so that no one may harm11 it. 4 I am not angry. If only there were briers and thorns confronting me! I would march against them in battle; I would set them all on fire.12 5 Or else let them come to me for refuge;13 let them make peace14 with me, yes, let them make peace with me." 6 In days to come Jacob will take root,15 Israel will bud and blossom16 and fill all the world with fruit.17 7 Has [the LORD] struck her as he struck18 down those who struck her? Has she been killed as those were killed who killed her? 8 By warfarea and exile19 you contend with her-- with his fierce blast he drives her out, as on a day the east wind20 blows. 9 By this, then, will Jacob's guilt be atoned21 for, and this will be the full fruitage of the removal of his sin:22 When he makes all the altar stones23 to be like chalk stones crushed to pieces, no Asherah polesb24 or incense altars25 will be left standing. 10 The fortified city stands desolate,26 an abandoned settlement, forsaken27 like the desert; there the calves graze,28 there they lie down;29 they strip its branches bare. 11 When its twigs are dry, they are broken off30 and women come and make fires31 with them. For this is a people without understanding;32 so their Maker has no compassion on them, and their Creator33 shows them no favor.34 12 In that day the LORD will thresh35 from the flowing Euphratesc to the Wadi of Egypt,36 and you, O Israelites, will be gathered37 up one by one. 13 And in that day38 a great trumpet39 will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled40 in Egypt41 will come and worship42 the LORD on the holy mountain43 in Jerusalem.Scripture quoted by permission.
