Isaiah 1:14-24 (New International Version)

14 Your New Moon1 festivals and your appointed feasts2 my soul hates.3 They have become a burden to me;4 I am weary5 of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands6 in prayer, I will hide7 my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen.8 Your hands9 are full of blood;10 16 wash11 and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight!12 Stop doing wrong,13 17 learn to do right!14 Seek justice,15 encourage the oppressed.a16 Defend the cause of the fatherless,17 plead the case of the widow.18 18 "Come now, let us reason together,"19 says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;20 though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.21 19 If you are willing and obedient,22 you will eat the best from the land;23 20 but if you resist and rebel,24 you will be devoured by the sword."25 For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.26 21 See how the faithful city has become a harlot!27 She once was full of justice; righteousness28 used to dwell in her-- but now murderers!29 22 Your silver has become dross,30 your choice wine is diluted with water. 23 Your rulers are rebels,31 companions of thieves;32 they all love bribes33 and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow's case does not come before them.34 24 Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One35 of Israel, declares: "Ah, I will get relief from my foes and avenge36 myself on my enemies.37
