Then the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go out, you and your son Shear-Jashub,a1 to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Washerman's Field.24
Say to him, 'Be careful, keep calm3 and don't be afraid.4 Do not lose heart5 because of these two smoldering stubs6 of firewood--because of the fierce anger7 of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.85
Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah's9 son have plotted10 your ruin, saying,
"Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it."
Yet this is what the Sovereign LORD says:11 " 'It will not take place, it will not happen,128
for the head of Aram is Damascus,13 and the head of Damascus is only Rezin.14 Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be too shattered15 to be a people.
The head of Ephraim is Samaria,16 and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah's son. If you do not stand17 firm in your faith,18 you will not stand at all.' "1910
Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz,
"Ask the LORD your God for a sign,20 whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.21"
But Ahaz said, "I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test.22"
Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David!23 Is it not enough24 to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience25 of my God26 also?
