Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak;1 they must be carried because they cannot walk.2 Do not fear them; they can do no harm3 nor can they do any good."46
No one is like you,5 O LORD; you are great,6 and your name is mighty in power.
Who should not revere7 you, O King of the nations?8 This is your due. Among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.
They are all senseless9 and foolish;10 they are taught by worthless wooden idols.119
Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish12 and gold from Uphaz. What the craftsman and goldsmith have made13 is then dressed in blue and purple-- all made by skilled workers.
But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God,14 the eternal King.15 When he is angry,16 the earth trembles;17 the nations cannot endure his wrath.1811
"Tell them this: 'These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish19 from the earth and from under the heavens.' "a12
But God made20 the earth21 by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom22 and stretched out the heavens23 by his understanding.
When he thunders,24 the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning25 with the rain26 and brings out the wind from his storehouses.2714
Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed28 by his idols. His images are a fraud;29 they have no breath in them.
They are worthless,30 the objects of mockery; when their judgment comes, they will perish.
