Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God's intimate friendship1 blessed my house,2
when the Almighty was still with me and my children3 were around me,4
when my path was drenched with cream5 and the rock6 poured out for me streams of olive oil.7
"When I went to the gate8 of the city and took my seat in the public square,
the young men saw me and stepped aside9 and the old men rose to their feet;10
the chief men refrained from speaking11 and covered their mouths with their hands;12
the voices of the nobles were hushed,13 and their tongues stuck to the roof of their mouths.14
Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me,15
because I rescued the poor16 who cried for help, and the fatherless17 who had none to assist him.18
The man who was dying blessed me;19 I made the widow's20 heart sing.
I put on righteousness21 as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban.22
