Were you called while a slave? aDo not worry about it; but if you are ablealso to becomefree, ratherbdo that.
For he who was called in the Lord while a slave, is 1the Lord'sfreedman; likewise he who was called while free, is 2Christ'sslave.
233You were bought with a price; do not becomeslaves of men.
24Brethren, 4eachone is to remain with God in that condition in which he was called.
25Nowconcerningvirgins I have5nocommand of the Lord, but I give an opinion as one who c6by the mercy of the Lord is trustworthy.
I thinkthen that this is good in view of the dpresent7distress, that 8it is good for a maneto remain as he is.
Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be released. Are you released from a wife? Do not seek a wife.
But if you marry, you have not sinned; and if a virginmarries, she has not sinned. Yetsuch will haveftrouble in thislife, and I am trying to spare you.
But this I say, brethren, 9the time has beenshortened, so that from now on those who havewives should be as though they hadnone;
and those who weep, as though they did not weep; and those who rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those who buy, as though they did not possess;
and those who use the world, as though they did not 10makefulluse of it; for 11the form of thisworld is passingaway.
