The sons of Israelcdidthingssecretlywhich were not rightagainst the LORD their God. Moreover, they built for themselves highplaces in all their towns, from 3watchtower to fortifiedcity.
104They set for themselves sacred pillars and d5Asherim on everyhighhill and undereverygreentree,
and there they burnedincense on all the highplaces as the nations did which the LORD had carriedaway to exilebefore them; and they didevilthingsprovoking the LORD.
They servedidols, 6concerning which the LORD had said to them, "You shall not dothisthing."
Yet the 7LORDwarnedIsrael and Judah8throughall His prophets and 9everyseer, saying, "10Turn from your evilways and keep My commandments, My statutes according to all the lawwhich I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets."
However, they did not listen, but 11stiffened their neckelike their fathers, who did not believe in the LORD their God.
1512They rejected His statutes and 13His covenantwhich He made with their fathers and His warnings with which He warned them. And 14they followedvanity and 15becamevain, and went after the nationswhichsurrounded them, concerning which the 16LORD had commanded them not to do like them.
They forsookall the commandments of the LORD their God and made for themselves moltenimages, even 17twocalves, and 18made an fAsherah and 19worshipedall the host of heaven and 20servedBaal.
Then 21they made their sons and their daughterspass through the fire, and 22practiceddivination and enchantments, and 23sold themselves to doevil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him.
So the LORD was veryangry with Israel and 24removed them from His gsight; 25none was leftexcept the tribe of Judah.
