1
For I want you to knowhowgreat a 1struggle I have on your behalf and for thosewho are at 2Laodicea, and for all those who have not apersonallyseen my face,
2
that their 3hearts may be encouraged, having been 4knittogether in love, and attaining to all5the wealthbthat comes from the fullassurance of understanding, resulting in a 6trueknowledge of 7God'smystery, that is, Christ Himself,
3
in whom are hiddenall8the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
49I saythisso that noone will delude you with 10persuasiveargument.
5
For eventhough I am11absent in body, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, rejoicingcto seedyour 12gooddiscipline and the 13stability of your faith in Christ.
6Therefore as you have received14ChristJesus the Lord, so e15walk in Him,
7
having been firmly16rooted and now being 17built up in Him and 18establishedfin your faith, just as you 19were instructed, and overflowinggwith gratitude.
820See to it that noonetakes you captivethrough21philosophy and emptydeception, according to the tradition of men, according to the 22elementaryprinciples of the world, hratherthanaccording to Christ.
9
For in Him all the 23fullness of Deitydwells in bodilyform,
10
and in Him you have been24madeicomplete, and 25He is the headjover all26rule and authority ;
11
and in Him 27you were alsocircumcised with a circumcisionmadewithouthands, in the removal of 28the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ ;
12
having been 29buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also30raised up with Him throughfaith in the working of God, who 31raised Him from the dead.
13
When you were 32deadkin your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He 33made you alivetogether with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,
14
having canceled out 34the certificate of debt consisting of decreesagainst us, which was hostile to us; and 35He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
15
When He had l36disarmed the 37rulers and authorities, He 38made a publicdisplay of them, having 39triumphedover them throughmHim.
16Thereforenoone is to n40act as your judge in regard to 41foodor42drinkor in respect to a 43festivalor a 44newmoonor a 45Sabbathoday-
17
things which are 46a mere shadow of what is to come ; but the psubstanceqbelongs to Christ.
18
Let noone keep r47defrauding you of your prize by 48delighting in sself-abasement and the worship of the angels, ttaking his stand on visions he has seen, u49inflatedwithoutcause by his 50fleshlymind,
19
and not holdingfast to 51the head, from whom52the entirebody, being supplied and heldtogether by the joints and vligaments, grows with a growthwwhich is from God.
2053If you have died with Christxto the 54elementaryprinciples of the world, 55why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to 56decrees, such as,
21
"Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch !"
22
(whichall refer 57to things destined to perishywith use )-in accordance with the 58commandments and teachings of men ?
23These are matterswhichhave, to be sure, the zappearance of wisdom in aa59self-madereligion and self-abasement and 60severetreatment of the body, but are of novalueagainst61fleshlyindulgence.
