Now the king and Hamancame to drink wine with Esther the queen.
And the kingsaid to Esther on the seconddayalsoaas they drank their wine at the banquet, "1What is your petition, QueenEsther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? 2Even to half of the kingdom it shall be done."
Then QueenEstherreplied, "3If I have foundfavor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me as my petition, and my people as my request;
for 4we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, 5to be killed and to be annihilated. Now if we had only been sold as slaves , men and women, I would have remainedsilent, for the btrouble would not be commensurate with the cannoyance to the king."
Then KingAhasuerusdaskedQueenEsther, "Who is he, and where is he, ewho would presume to dothus?"
6Esthersaid, "6A foe and an enemy is thiswickedHaman!" Then Haman became terrifiedbefore the king and queen.
The kingarose7in his anger from fdrinkingwine and went into 8the palacegarden; but Hamanstayed to beg for his life from QueenEsther, for he saw that harm had been determinedagainst him by the king.
Now when the kingreturned from the palacegarden into the gplacewhere they were drinkingwine, Haman was falling on 9the couchwhereEsther was. Then the kingsaid, "Will he evenassault the queen with me in the house?" As the wordwent out of the king'smouth, they coveredHaman'sface.
