So it will be that when the Lord has completedall His 1work on MountZion and on Jerusalem, He will say, "I will apunish the fruit of the arrogantheart of the king of Assyria and 2the pomp of bhis haughtiness."
For 3he has said, "By the power of my hand and by my wisdom I did this, For I haveunderstanding; And I 4removed the boundaries of the peoples And plundered their treasures, And like a mightyman I broughtdownctheir inhabitants,
And my handreached to the riches of the peoples like a 5nest, And as one gathersabandonedeggs, I gatheredall the earth; And there was not one that flapped its wing or opened its beak or chirped."
Is the 6axe to 7boast itself over the one who chops with it? Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it? That would be like 8a dclubwielding those who lift it, Or like 9a rodlifting him who is not wood.
16Therefore the Lord, the eGOD of hosts, will send a 10wastingdisease among his 11stoutwarriors; And under his 12glory a fire will be kindled like a burningflame.
And the 13light of Israel will become a fire and his 14HolyOne a flame, And it will 15burn and devour his thorns and his briars in a singleday.
And He will 16destroy the glory of his forest and of his fruitfulgarden, bothsoul and body, And it will be as when a sickmanwastesaway.
And the 17rest of the trees of his forest will be so small in number That a child could write them down.
Now in that day the 18remnant of Israel, and those of the house of Jacob19who have escaped, will neveragainrely on the one who struck them, but will truly20rely on the LORD, the HolyOne of Israel.
A 21remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the 22mightyGod.
For 23though your people, O Israel, may be like the sand of the sea, Only a remnant within them will return; A 24destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.
