John 15:1-17

Listen to John 15:1-17

Jesus Is the Vine--Followers Are Branches

1 "1I am the true vine, and My Father is the 2vinedresser.
2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.
3 "3You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
4 "4Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot * bear fruit of itself unless * it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless * you abide in Me.
5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he 5bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing *.
6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is 6thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.
7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, 7ask whatever * you wish, and it will be done for you.
8 "My 8Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so 9prove to be My disciples.
9 "Just as 10the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.
10 "11If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as 12I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
11 "13These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your 14joy may be made full.

Disciples' Relation to Each Other

12 "This is 15My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.
13 "16Greater love has no one than this, that one 17lay down his life for his friends.
14 "You are My 18friends if 19you do what I command you.
15 "No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for 20all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
16 "21You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and 22bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that 23whatever * * you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.
17 "This 24I command you, that you love one another.

The Vine & The Branches - John 15:1-17
Bill Luebkemann

Welcome to Hope From the Word with Pastor Bill Luebkemann, the senior Pastor at Calvary Chapel of Marlton. We're currently studying selected chapters in John's Gospel, as a part of our through-the-Bible series.  And today Pastor Bill will continue looking at chapter fifteen. We've all heard references to the “fruit of the spirit”, but many people have misused that phrase and twisted it around to serve their own selfish purposes. Join us in John chapter fifteen, and let's learn exactly what the fruit of the spirit is. Here's Pastor Bill Luebkemann…

Abiding for a Purpose, Part 2
Abiding for a Purpose, Part 2
Stuart and Jill Briscoe

John 15 tells us that we’re abiding in Christ when we’re living in Him and He’s living in us. And then goes on to explain that it’s through our abiding in Christ that we will bear much fruit and prove to be His disciples. What do disciples of Jesus Christ do? The great commission from Jesus is for us to “Go therefore and make disciples…” (Matthew 28:19). So, how are you doing making disciples? For many of us, just the idea makes us tongue-tied and our palms sweat. Why do we get flustered over the idea of making disciples for Jesus, whom we love and trust?  Maybe it’s because we’ve made it more difficult and complicated than it actually is. In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches from John 2 and John 15 to show how simple, rich, deep, and beautiful abiding is, and what bearing fruit looks like in the life of a disciple who is abiding in Jesus.
