11ThenJesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness2to be tempted by the devil.

And after He had 3fastedfortydays and fortynights, He athen became hungry.

And 4the temptercame and said to Him, "If You are the 5Son of God, command that thesestonesbecomebread."

But He answered and said, "It is written, '6MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREADALONE, BUT ON EVERYWORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.' "5Then the deviltook Him into 7the holycity and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,

and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throwYourselfdown ; for it is written, '8HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELSCONCERNING YOU'; and 'ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOTAGAINST A STONE.' "
7Jesussaid to him, "bOn the otherhand, it is written, '9YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.' "810Again, the deviltook Him to a veryhighmountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory ;

and he said to Him, "11Allthesethings I will give You, if You falldown and cworship me."
10ThenJesussaid to him, "Go, Satan ! For it is written, '12YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND dSERVE HIM ONLY.' "11Then the devilleft Him; and behold, 13angelscame and began to minister to Him.
12Now when Jesus heard that 14John had been taken into custody, 15He withdrew into Galilee ;

and leavingNazareth, He came and 16settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.

This was to fulfillwhat was spokenthroughIsaiah the prophet :

"17THE LAND OF ZEBULUN AND THE LAND OF NAPHTALI, eBY THE WAY OF THE SEA, BEYOND THE JORDAN, GALILEE OF THE fGENTILES -
16
"18THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SITTING IN DARKNESSSAW A GREATLIGHT, AND THOSE WHO WERE SITTING IN THE LAND AND SHADOW OF DEATH, UPON THEM A LIGHTDAWNED."
1719From that timeJesusbegan to gpreach and say, "20Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
1821Now as Jesus was walking by 22the Sea of Galilee, He sawtwobrothers, 23Simon who was calledPeter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea ; for they were fishermen.

And He said to them, "hFollow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."20Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
21Going on from there He sawtwootherbrothers, i24James the son of Zebedee, and jJohn his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets ; and He called them.
22Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Jesus was going25throughoutallGalilee, 26teaching in their synagogues and 27proclaiming the kgospel of the kingdom, and 28healingeverykind of disease and everykind of sicknessamong the people.

The news about Him spread29throughoutallSyria ; and they brought to Him all who were ill , those suffering with variousdiseases and pains, 30demoniacs, l31epileptics, 32paralytics ; and He healed them.
25Largecrowds33followed Him from Galilee and 34the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from 35beyond the Jordan.
