Joshua 18:5

And they shall divide it into seven parts
According to the number of the seven tribes not yet settled; and this they were to describe and divide was all the land subdued, or not subdued, only the following excepted:

Judah shall abide in their coast on the south;
on the south of the land of Canaan, where their lot fell, so that needed not to be measured and described; and this tribe was to retain what they were possessed of, unless it should appear they had too much, and others wanted, and they willing to part with some of it to their brethren, as they afterwards did to the tribes of Simeon and Dan:

and the house of Joseph shall abide in their coast on the north;
on the north of the tribe of Judah; not of the land of Canaan, for some other tribes lay more northerly.

3 Entonces Josué les preguntó: «¿Cuánto tiempo más van a esperar para tomar posesión del resto de la tierra que el Señor
, Dios de sus antepasados, les ha dado?

4 Elijan a tres hombres de cada tribu, y yo los enviaré a que exploren la tierra y tracen un mapa de ella. Cuando regresen, me traerán un informe escrito con la división que proponen para repartir la nueva tierra que será su hogar.

5 Que dividan la tierra en siete partes sin incluir el territorio de Judá, en el sur, ni el de José, en el norte.

6 Y cuando tengan por escrito las siete divisiones de la tierra y me las traigan, haré un sorteo sagrado en presencia del Señor
nuestro Dios para asignarle tierra a cada tribu.

7 »Sin embargo, los levitas no recibirán ninguna porción de tierra. Su porción consiste en ser sacerdotes del Señor
. Y la tribu de Gad, la tribu de Rubén y la media tribu de Manasés no recibirán más tierra, porque ya recibieron sus respectivas porciones, las cuales Moisés, siervo del Señor
, les dio al oriente del río Jordán».
