Amós 5:7-13

7 Ustedes tuercen la justicia y la convierten en trago amargo para el oprimido.
Tratan al justo como basura.

8 Es el Señor
quien creó las estrellas,
las Pléyades y el Orión.
Él transforma la oscuridad en luz
y el día en noche.
Él levanta agua de los océanos
y la vierte como lluvia sobre la tierra.
¡El Señor
es su nombre!

9 Con poder y deslumbrante velocidad destruye a los poderosos
y aplasta todas sus defensas.

10 ¡Cómo odian ustedes a los jueces honestos!
¡Cómo desprecian a los que dicen la verdad!

11 Pisotean a los pobres,
robándoles el grano con impuestos y rentas injustas.
Por lo tanto, aunque construyan hermosas casas de piedra,
nunca vivirán en ellas.
Aunque planten viñedos exuberantes,
nunca beberán su vino.

12 Pues yo conozco la enorme cantidad de sus pecados
y la profundidad de sus rebeliones.
Ustedes oprimen a los buenos al aceptar sobornos
y privan al pobre de la justicia en los tribunales.

13 Así que los que son listos permanecerán con la boca cerrada,
porque es un tiempo malo.

INTRODUCTION TO AMOS 5

In this chapter the prophet exhorts Israel to hear his lamentation over them for their impending ruin, Am 5:1-3; nevertheless to seek the Lord, and all that is good; to forsake their idols, and repent of their sins, in hopes of finding mercy, and living comfortably; or otherwise they must expect the wrath of God for their iniquities, especially their oppression of the poor, Am 5:4-15; otherwise it would be a time of weeping and wailing, of darkness and distress, however they might harden or flatter themselves, or make a jest of it, Am 5:16-20; for all their sacrifices and ceremonial worship would signify nothing, so long as they continued their idolatry with them Am 5:21-26; and therefore should surely go into captivity, Am 5:27.
