Young's Literal Translation (YLT) New International Version (NIV)
A Psalm of Asaph. The God of gods -- Jehovah -- hath spoken, And He calleth to the earth From the rising of the sun unto its going in. 1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.
From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shone. 2 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Our God cometh, and is not silent, Fire before Him doth devour, And round about him it hath been very tempestuous. 3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
He doth call unto the heavens from above, And unto the earth, to judge His people. 4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people:
Gather ye to Me My saints, Making covenant with Me over a sacrifice. 5 "Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice."
And the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself [is] judge. Selah. 6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. "Selah"
Hear, O My people, and I speak, O Israel, and I testify against thee, God, thy God [am] I. 7 "Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.
Not for thy sacrifices do I reprove thee, Yea, thy burnt-offerings [Are] before Me continually. 8 I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
I take not from thy house a bullock, From thy folds he goats. 9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,
For Mine [is] every beast of the forest, The cattle on the hills of oxen. 10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
I have known every fowl of the mountains, And the wild beast of the field [is] with Me. 11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
If I am hungry I tell not to thee, For Mine [is] the world and its fulness. 12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls, And drink the blood of he-goats? 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
Sacrifice to God confession, And complete to the Most High thy vows. 14 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
And call Me in a day of adversity, I deliver thee, and thou honourest Me. 15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."
And to the wicked hath God said: What to thee -- to recount My statutes? That thou liftest up My covenant on thy mouth? 16 But to the wicked, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
Yea, thou hast hated instruction, And dost cast My words behind thee. 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
If thou hast seen a thief, Then thou art pleased with him, And with adulterers [is] thy portion. 18 When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers.
Thy mouth thou hast sent forth with evil, And thy tongue joineth deceit together, 19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit.
Thou sittest, against thy brother thou speakest, Against a son of thy mother givest slander. 20 You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother's son.
These thou didst, and I kept silent, Thou hast thought that I am like thee, I reprove thee, and set in array before thine eyes. 21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
Understand this, I pray you, Ye who are forgetting God, Lest I tear, and there is no deliverer. 22 "Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
He who is sacrificing praise honoureth Me, As to him who maketh a way, I cause him to look on the salvation of God! 23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God."
