Jeremiah 6:1-6 NCV/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

New Century Version (NCV) New International Version (NIV)
1 "Run for your lives, people of Benjamin! Run away from Jerusalem! Disaster is coming from the north; terrible destruction is coming to you. 1 "Flee for safety, people of Benjamin! Flee from Jerusalem! Sound the trumpet in Tekoa! Raise the signal over Beth Hakkerem! For disaster looms out of the north, even terrible destruction.
2 Jerusalem, I will destroy you, you who are fragile and gentle. 2 I will destroy the Daughter of Zion, so beautiful and delicate.
3 Shepherds with their flocks will come against Jerusalem. They will set up their tents all around her, each shepherd taking care of his own section." 3 Shepherds with their flocks will come against her; they will pitch their tents around her, each tending his own portion."
4 They say, "Get ready to fight against Jerusalem! But it is already getting late; the evening shadows are growing long. 4 "Prepare for battle against her! Arise, let us attack at noon! But, alas, the daylight is fading, and the shadows of evening grow long.
5 So get up! We will attack at night. 5 So arise, let us attack at night and destroy her fortresses!"
6 This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: "Cut down the trees around Jerusalem, and build an attack ramp to the top of its walls. This city must be punished. Inside it is nothing but slavery. 6 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Cut down the trees and build siege ramps against Jerusalem. This city must be punished; it is filled with oppression.
