Proverbs 14:11-21 NLT/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
The house of the wicked will perish, but the tent of the godly will flourish. 11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.
There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. 12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
Laughter can conceal a heavy heart; when the laughter ends, the grief remains. 13 Even in laughter the heart may ache, and joy may end in grief.
Backsliders get what they deserve; good people receive their reward. 14 The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways, and the good man rewarded for his.
Only simpletons believe everything they are told! The prudent carefully consider their steps. 15 A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps.
The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with great confidence. 16 A wise man fears the LORD and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless.
Those who are short-tempered do foolish things, and schemers are hated. 17 A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated.
The simpleton is clothed with folly, but the wise person is crowned with knowledge. 18 The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Evil people will bow before good people; the wicked will bow at the gates of the godly. 19 Evil men will bow down in the presence of the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
The poor are despised even by their neighbors, while the rich have many "friends." 20 The poor are shunned even by their neighbors, but the rich have many friends.
It is sin to despise one's neighbors; blessed are those who help the poor. 21 He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who is kind to the needy.
