Psalm 22 NLT/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be sung to the tune "Doe of the Dawn." My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me? Why do you remain so distant? Why do you ignore my cries for help? 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night you hear my voice, but I find no relief. 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent.
Yet you are holy. The praises of Israel surround your throne. 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel.
Our ancestors trusted in you, and you rescued them. 4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.
You heard their cries for help and saved them. They put their trust in you and were never disappointed. 5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.
But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all! 6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people.
Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying, 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads:
"Is this the one who relies on the LORD? Then let the LORD save him! If the LORD loves him so much, let the LORD rescue him!" 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him."
Yet you brought me safely from my mother's womb and led me to trust you when I was a nursing infant. 9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast.
I was thrust upon you at my birth. You have been my God from the moment I was born. 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God.
Do not stay so far from me, for trouble is near, and no one else can help me. 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
My enemies surround me like a herd of bulls; fierce bulls of Bashan have hemmed me in! 12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
Like roaring lions attacking their prey, they come at me with open mouths. 13 Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me.
My life is poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, melting within me. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me.
My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.
My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet. 16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.
I can count every bone in my body. My enemies stare at me and gloat. 17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.
They divide my clothes among themselves and throw dice for my garments. 18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
O LORD, do not stay away! You are my strength; come quickly to my aid! 19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
Rescue me from a violent death; spare my precious life from these dogs. 20 Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs.
Snatch me from the lions' jaws, and from the horns of these wild oxen. 21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen.
Then I will declare the wonder of your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among all your people. 22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.
Praise the LORD, all you who fear him! Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob! Show him reverence, all you descendants of Israel! 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
For he has not ignored the suffering of the needy. He has not turned and walked away. He has listened to their cries for help. 24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
I will praise you among all the people; I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who worship you. 25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows.
The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the LORD will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy. 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him-- may your hearts live forever!
The whole earth will acknowledge the LORD and return to him. People from every nation will bow down before him. 27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
For the LORD is king! He rules all the nations. 28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.
Let the rich of the earth feast and worship. Let all mortals -- those born to die -- bow down in his presence. 29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him-- those who cannot keep themselves alive.
Future generations will also serve him. Our children will hear about the wonders of the Lord. 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
His righteous acts will be told to those yet unborn. They will hear about everything he has done. 31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn-- for he has done it.
