2 Timothy 2:1-13

NLT 1 Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. NIV 1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. NLT 2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. NIV 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. NLT 3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. NIV 3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. NLT 4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. NIV 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer. NLT 5 And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. NIV 5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. NLT 6 And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. NIV 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. NLT 7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things. NIV 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this. NLT 8 Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach. NIV 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, NLT 9 And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained. NIV 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. NLT 10 So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen. NIV 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. NLT 11 This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him. NIV 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; NLT 12 If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us. NIV 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; NLT 13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is. NIV 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
