Acts 11

HNV 1 Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Yehudah heard that the Goyim had also received the word of God. NIV 1 The apostles and the brothers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. HNV 2 When Kefa had come up to Yerushalayim, those who were of the circumcision contended with him, NIV 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him HNV 3 saying, "You went in to uncircumcised men, and ate with them!" NIV 3 and said, "You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them." HNV 4 But Kefa began, and explained to them in order, saying, NIV 4 Peter began and explained everything to them precisely as it had happened: HNV 5 "I was in the city of Yafo praying, and in a trance I saw a vision: a certain container descending, like it was a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners. It came as far as me, NIV 5 "I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. HNV 6 on which, when I had looked intently, I considered, and saw the four-footed animals of the eretz, wild animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky. NIV 6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air. HNV 7 I also heard a voice saying to me, 'Rise, Kefa, kill and eat!' NIV 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, 'Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.' HNV 8 But I said, 'Not so, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.' NIV 8 "I replied, 'Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.' HNV 9 But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, 'What God has cleansed, don't you make unholy.' NIV 9 "The voice spoke from heaven a second time, 'Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.' HNV 10 This was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. NIV 10 This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again. HNV 11 Behold, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me. NIV 11 "Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. HNV 12 The Spirit told me to go with them, without discriminating. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house. NIV 12 The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man's house. HNV 13 He told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying to him, 'Send to Yafo, and get Shim`on, whose surname is Kefa, NIV 13 He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, 'Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. HNV 14 who will speak to you words whereby you will be saved, you and all your house.' NIV 14 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.' HNV 15 As I began to speak, the Ruach HaKodesh fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. NIV 15 "As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. HNV 16 I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, 'Yochanan indeed immersed with water, but you will be immersed in the Ruach HaKodesh.' NIV 16 Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' HNV 17 If then God gave to them the same gift as us, when we believed in the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, who was I, that I could withstand God?" NIV 17 So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?" HNV 18 When they heard these things, they held their shalom, and glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Goyim repentance to life!" NIV 18 When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, "So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life." HNV 19 They therefore who were scattered abroad by the oppression that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except only to Yehudim. NIV 19 Now those who had been scattered by the persecution in connection with Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, telling the message only to Jews. HNV 20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Yevanim, preaching the Lord Yeshua. NIV 20 Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. HNV 21 The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord. NIV 21 The Lord's hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord. HNV 22 The report concerning them came to the ears of the assembly which was in Yerushalayim. They sent forth Bar-Nabba to go as far as Antioch, NIV 22 News of this reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. HNV 23 who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would remain near to the Lord. NIV 23 When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. HNV 24 For he was a good man, and full of the Ruach HaKodesh and of faith, and many people were added to the Lord. NIV 24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. HNV 25 Bar-Nabba went forth to Tarsus to look for Sha'ul. NIV 25 Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, HNV 26 When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. It happened, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The talmidim were first called Messianic in Antioch. NIV 26 and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. HNV 27 Now in these days, prophets came down from Yerushalayim to Antioch. NIV 27 During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. HNV 28 One of them named Agav stood up, and indicated by the Spirit that there should be a great famine over all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius. NIV 28 One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.) HNV 29 The talmidim, as anyone had plenty, each determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Yehudah; NIV 29 The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea. HNV 30 which they also did, sending it to the Zakenim by the hands of Bar-Nabba and Sha'ul. NIV 30 This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.
