Job 28

WBT 1 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold [where] they fine [it]. NIV 1 "There is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined. WBT 2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass [is] melted [out of] the stone. NIV 2 Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore. WBT 3 He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shades of death. NIV 3 Man puts an end to the darkness; he searches the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness. WBT 4 The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant: [even the waters] forgotten by the foot: they are dried up, they have gone away from men. NIV 4 Far from where people dwell he cuts a shaft, in places forgotten by the foot of man; far from men he dangles and sways. WBT 5 [As for] the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire. NIV 5 The earth, from which food comes, is transformed below as by fire; WBT 6 The stones of it [are] the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold. NIV 6 sapphires come from its rocks, and its dust contains nuggets of gold. WBT 7 [There is] a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vultur's eye hath not seen: NIV 7 No bird of prey knows that hidden path, no falcon's eye has seen it. WBT 8 The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it. NIV 8 Proud beasts do not set foot on it, and no lion prowls there. WBT 9 He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots. NIV 9 Man's hand assaults the flinty rock and lays bare the roots of the mountains. WBT 10 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing. NIV 10 He tunnels through the rock; his eyes see all its treasures. WBT 11 He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and [the thing that is] hid he bringeth forth to light. NIV 11 He searches the sources of the rivers and brings hidden things to light. WBT 12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where [is] the place of understanding? NIV 12 "But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? WBT 13 Man knoweth not the price of it; neither is it found in the land of the living. NIV 13 Man does not comprehend its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living. WBT 14 The depth saith, It [is] not in me: and the sea saith, [It is] not with me. NIV 14 The deep says, 'It is not in me'; the sea says, 'It is not with me.' WBT 15 It cannot be obtained for gold, neither shall silver be weighed [for] the price of it. NIV 15 It cannot be bought with the finest gold, nor can its price be weighed in silver. WBT 16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. NIV 16 It cannot be bought with the gold of Ophir, with precious onyx or sapphires. WBT 17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it [shall not be for] jewels of fine gold. NIV 17 Neither gold nor crystal can compare with it, nor can it be had for jewels of gold. WBT 18 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom [is] above rubies. NIV 18 Coral and jasper are not worthy of mention; the price of wisdom is beyond rubies. WBT 19 The topaz of Cush shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. NIV 19 The topaz of Cush cannot compare with it; it cannot be bought with pure gold. WBT 20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where [is] the place of understanding? NIV 20 "Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? WBT 21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. NIV 21 It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing, concealed even from the birds of the air. WBT 22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame of it with our ears. NIV 22 Destruction and Death say, 'Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.' WBT 23 God understandeth the way of it, and he knoweth its place. NIV 23 God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells, WBT 24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, [and] seeth under the whole heaven; NIV 24 for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. WBT 25 To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure. NIV 25 When he established the force of the wind and measured out the waters, WBT 26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: NIV 26 when he made a decree for the rain and a path for the thunderstorm, WBT 27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. NIV 27 then he looked at wisdom and appraised it; he confirmed it and tested it. WBT 28 And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that [is] wisdom; and to depart from evil [is] understanding. NIV 28 And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord--that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.' "
