Job 38

MSG 1 And now, finally, God answered Job from the eye of a violent storm. He said: NIV 1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said: MSG 2 "Why do you confuse the issue? Why do you talk without knowing what you're talking about? NIV 2 "Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge? MSG 3 Pull yourself together, Job! Up on your feet! Stand tall! I have some questions for you, and I want some straight answers. NIV 3 Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. MSG 4 Where were you when I created the earth? NIV 9 when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, MSG 10 Then I made a playpen for it, a strong playpen so it couldn't run loose, NIV 10 when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, MSG 11 And said, 'Stay here, this is your place. Your wild tantrums are confined to this place.' NIV 11 when I said, 'This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt'? MSG 12 "And have you ever ordered Morning, 'Get up!' told Dawn, 'Get to work!' NIV 12 "Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, MSG 13 So you could seize Earth like a blanket and shake out the wicked like cockroaches? NIV 13 that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it? MSG 14 As the sun brings everything to light, brings out all the colors and shapes, NIV 14 The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features stand out like those of a garment. MSG 15 The cover of darkness is snatched from the wicked - they're caught in the very act! NIV 15 The wicked are denied their light, and their upraised arm is broken. MSG 16 "Have you ever gotten to the true bottom of things, explored the labyrinthine caves of deep ocean? NIV 16 "Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep? MSG 22 "Have you ever traveled to where snow is made, seen the vault where hail is stockpiled, NIV 22 "Have you entered the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of the hail, MSG 23 The arsenals of hail and snow that I keep in readiness for times of trouble and battle and war? NIV 23 which I reserve for times of trouble, for days of war and battle? MSG 24 Can you find your way to where lightning is launched, or to the place from which the wind blows? NIV 24 What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed, or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth? MSG 25 Who do you suppose carves canyons for the downpours of rain, and charts the route of thunderstorms NIV 25 Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain, and a path for the thunderstorm, MSG 26 That bring water to unvisited fields, deserts no one ever lays eyes on, NIV 26 to water a land where no man lives, a desert with no one in it, MSG 27 Drenching the useless wastelands so they're carpeted with wildflowers and grass? NIV 27 to satisfy a desolate wasteland and make it sprout with grass? MSG 28 And who do you think is the father of rain and dew, NIV 28 Does the rain have a father? Who fathers the drops of dew?
