Job 40

GNT 1 Job, you challenged Almighty God; will you give up now, or will you answer? NIV 1 The LORD said to Job: GNT 3 I spoke foolishly, Lord. What can I answer? I will not try to say anything else. NIV 3 Then Job answered the LORD: GNT 5 I have already said more than I should. NIV 5 I spoke once, but I have no answer-- twice, but I will say no more." GNT 6 Then out of the storm the Lord spoke to Job once again. NIV 6 Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm: GNT 7 Now stand up straight and answer my questions. NIV 7 "Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. GNT 8 Are you trying to prove that I am unjust - to put me in the wrong and yourself in the right? NIV 8 "Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself ? GNT 9 Are you as strong as I am? Can your voice thunder as loud as mine? NIV 9 Do you have an arm like God's, and can your voice thunder like his? GNT 10 If so, stand up in your honor and pride; clothe yourself with majesty and glory. NIV 10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty. GNT 11 Look at those who are proud; pour out your anger and humble them. NIV 11 Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at every proud man and bring him low, GNT 12 Yes, look at them and bring them down; crush the wicked where they stand. NIV 12 look at every proud man and humble him, crush the wicked where they stand. GNT 13 Bury them all in the ground; bind them in the world of the dead. NIV 13 Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave. GNT 14 Then I will be the first to praise you and admit that you won the victory yourself. NIV 14 Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you. GNT 15 Look at the monster Behemoth; I created him and I created you. He eats grass like a cow, NIV 15 "Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. GNT 16 but what strength there is in his body, and what power there is in his muscles! NIV 16 What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! GNT 17 His tail stands up like a cedar, and the muscles in his legs are strong. NIV 17 His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. GNT 18 His bones are as strong as bronze, and his legs are like iron bars. NIV 18 His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. GNT 19 The most amazing of all my creatures! Only his Creator can defeat him. NIV 19 He ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword. GNT 20 Grass to feed him grows on the hills where wild beasts play. NIV 20 The hills bring him their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby. GNT 21 He lies down under the thorn bushes, and hides among the reeds in the swamp. NIV 21 Under the lotus plants he lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh. GNT 22 The thorn bushes and the willows by the stream give him shelter in their shade. NIV 22 The lotuses conceal him in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround him. GNT 23 He is not afraid of a rushing river; he is calm when the Jordan dashes in his face. NIV 23 When the river rages, he is not alarmed; he is secure, though the Jordan should surge against his mouth. GNT 24 Who can blind his eyes and capture him? Or who can catch his snout in a trap? NIV 24 Can anyone capture him by the eyes, or trap him and pierce his nose?
