John 12:37-50

NLT 37 But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him. NIV 37 Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. NLT 38 This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted: “ LORD , who has believed our message? To whom has the LORD revealed his powerful arm?” NIV 38 This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: "Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" NLT 39 But the people couldn’t believe, for as Isaiah also said, NIV 39 For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: NLT 40 “The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts— so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them.” NIV 40 "He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn--and I would heal them." NLT 41 Isaiah was referring to Jesus when he said this, because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah’s glory. NIV 41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him. NLT 42 Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. NIV 42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; NLT 43 For they loved human praise more than the praise of God. NIV 43 for they loved praise from men more than praise from God. NLT 44 Jesus shouted to the crowds, “If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me. NIV 44 Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. NLT 45 For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. NIV 45 When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. NLT 46 I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark. NIV 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. NLT 47 I will not judge those who hear me but don’t obey me, for I have come to save the world and not to judge it. NIV 47 "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. NLT 48 But all who reject me and my message will be judged on the day of judgment by the truth I have spoken. NIV 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. NLT 49 I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it. NIV 49 For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. NLT 50 And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.” NIV 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."
