Jonah 2:2-9

NLT 2 He said, "I cried out to the LORD in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the world of the dead, and LORD, you heard me! NIV 2 He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. NLT 3 You threw me into the ocean depths, and I sank down to the heart of the sea. I was buried beneath your wild and stormy waves. NIV 3 You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. NLT 4 Then I said, 'O LORD, you have driven me from your presence. How will I ever again see your holy Temple?' NIV 4 I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.' NLT 5 "I sank beneath the waves, and death was very near. The waters closed in around me, and seaweed wrapped itself around my head. NIV 5 The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. NLT 6 I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was locked out of life and imprisoned in the land of the dead. But you, O LORD my God, have snatched me from the yawning jaws of death! NIV 6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God. NLT 7 "When I had lost all hope, I turned my thoughts once more to the LORD. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple. NIV 7 "When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. NLT 8 Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God's mercies. NIV 8 "Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. NLT 9 But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the LORD alone." NIV 9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD."
