WBT 22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Cesar, or not? NIV 22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" WBT 23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why tempt ye me? NIV 23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them, WBT 24 Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cesar's. NIV 24 "Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?" WBT 25 And he said to them, Render therefore to Cesar the things which are Cesar's, and to God the things which are God's. NIV 25 "Caesar's," they replied. He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." WBT 26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace. NIV 26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent. WBT 27 Then came to [him] certain of the Sadducees (who deny that there is any resurrection) and they asked him, NIV 27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question. WBT 28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If any man's brother should die, having a wife, and he should die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. NIV 28 "Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother. WBT 29 There were therefore seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and died without children. NIV 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless. WBT 30 And the second took her for a wife, and he died childless. NIV 30 The second WBT 31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: And they left no children, and died. NIV 31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children. WBT 32 Last of all the woman died also. NIV 32 Finally, the woman died too.
