Matthew 4:1-6

NLT 1 Then Jesus was led out into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted there by the Devil. NIV 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. NLT 2 For forty days and forty nights he ate nothing and became very hungry. NIV 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. NLT 3 Then the Devil came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, change these stones into loaves of bread." NIV 3 The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." NLT 4 But Jesus told him, "No! The Scriptures say, 'People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God.' " NIV 4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.' " NLT 5 Then the Devil took him to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, NIV 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. NLT 6 and said, "If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, 'He orders his angels to protect you. And they will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your foot on a stone.' " NIV 6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: " 'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' "
