Proverbs 15

CJB 1 A gentle response deflects fury, but a harsh word makes tempers rise. NIV 1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. CJB 2 The tongue of the wise presents knowledge well, but the mouth of a fool spews out folly. NIV 2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. CJB 3 The eyes of ADONAI are everywhere, watching the evil and the good. NIV 3 The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. NIV 23 A man finds joy in giving an apt reply-- and how good is a timely word! CJB 24 For the prudent, the path of life goes upward; thus he avoids Sh'ol below. NIV 24 The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. CJB 25 ADONAI will pull down the houses of the proud, but preserves intact the widow's boundaries. NIV 25 The LORD tears down the proud man's house but he keeps the widow's boundaries intact. CJB 26 ADONAI detests plans to do evil, but kind words are pure. NIV 26 The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but those of the pure are pleasing to him. CJB 27 The greedy for gain brings trouble to his home, but he who hates bribes will live. NIV 27 A greedy man brings trouble to his family, but he who hates bribes will live. CJB 28 The mind of the righteous thinks before speaking, but the mouth of the wicked spews out evil stuff. NIV 28 The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. CJB 29 ADONAI is far from the wicked, but he listens to the prayer of the righteous. NIV 29 The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous. CJB 30 A cheerful glance brings joy to the heart, and good news invigorates the bones. NIV 31 He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. CJB 32 He who spurns discipline detests himself, but he who listens to correction grows in understanding. NIV 32 He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding. CJB 33 The discipline of wisdom is fear of ADONAI, so before being honored, a person must be humble. NIV 33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
