Proverbs 15

LEB 1 A soft answer will turn away wrath, but a word of trouble will stir {anger}. NIV 1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. LEB 2 The tongue of the wise will dispense knowledge, but the mouth of fools will pour out folly. NIV 2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. LEB 3 In every place, the eyes of Yahweh keep watch over the evil and the good. NIV 3 The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. LEB 4 Gentleness of tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it [causes] a break in spirit. NIV 4 The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. LEB 5 A fool will despise the instruction of his father, but he who guards reproof is prudent. NIV 5 A fool spurns his father's discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence. LEB 6 [In] the house of the righteous [there is] much treasure, but the income of the wicked brings trouble. NIV 6 The house of the righteous contains great treasure, but the income of the wicked brings them trouble. LEB 7 The lips of the wise will spread knowledge, but the heart of fools, not so. NIV 7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools. LEB 8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination of Yahweh, but the prayer of the upright [is] his delight. NIV 8 The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him. LEB 9 An abomination of Yahweh is the way of the wicked, but he who pursues righteousness he will love. NIV 9 The LORD detests the way of the wicked but he loves those who pursue righteousness. LEB 10 Severe discipline [belongs] to him who forsakes the way; he who hates a rebuke will die. NIV 10 Stern discipline awaits him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die. LEB 11 Sheol and Abaddon [are] before Yahweh, {how much more} the hearts of the children of men! NIV 11 Death and Destruction lie open before the LORD -- how much more the hearts of men! LEB 12 A scoffer does not like {his rebuke}; to the wise he will not go. NIV 12 A mocker resents correction; he will not consult the wise. LEB 13 A heart of gladness will make good {countenance}, but in sorrow of heart a spirit is broken. NIV 13 A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit. LEB 14 The heart of him who understands will seek knowledge, but the faces of fools, they will feed on folly. NIV 14 The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly. LEB 15 All the days of the poor [are] hard, but goodness of heart [is] a continuous feast. NIV 15 All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast. LEB 16 Better [is] little with the fear of Yahweh than great treasure and trouble with it. NIV 16 Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great wealth with turmoil. LEB 17 Better [is] a dinner of vegetables when love [is] there than a fattened ox and hatred with it. NIV 17 Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred. LEB 18 A man who is hot-tempered will stir up strife, but he who is slow [to] {anger}, he will calm contention. NIV 18 A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel. LEB 19 The way of the lazy is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright [is] a highway. NIV 19 The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway. LEB 20 A child of wisdom will make a father glad, but a {foolish person}, he despises his mother. NIV 20 A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother. LEB 21 Folly is a joy to him who lacks {sense}, and a person of understanding {will walk upright}. NIV 21 Folly delights a man who lacks judgment, but a man of understanding keeps a straight course. LEB 22 Plans go wrong when there is no counsel, but with many advisors it will succeed. NIV 22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. LEB 23 Joy [belongs] to a man with answers in his mouth, and a word in its time, how good [it is]! NIV 23 A man finds joy in giving an apt reply-- and how good is a timely word! LEB 24 The path of life [leads] upward for him who has insight, in order to turn away from Sheol below. NIV 24 The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. LEB 25 The house of the proud, Yahweh will tear [it] down, but he will maintain the {property line} of the widow. NIV 25 The LORD tears down the proud man's house but he keeps the widow's boundaries intact. LEB 26 Plans of evil [are] an abomination of Yahweh, but gracious words are pure. NIV 26 The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but those of the pure are pleasing to him. LEB 27 He who makes trouble for his house [is] he who is greedy for unjust gain, but he who hates bribes will live. NIV 27 A greedy man brings trouble to his family, but he who hates bribes will live. LEB 28 A heart of righteousness will ponder the answer, but a mouth of wickedness will pour out deceit. NIV 28 The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. LEB 29 Yahweh is far from the wicked, but the prayers of the righteous he will hear. NIV 29 The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous. LEB 30 From the light of the eyes, the heart will rejoice, and good news will enliven the bones. NIV 30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones. LEB 31 The ear of him who listens [to] admonitions of life, in the midst of the wise it will lodge. NIV 31 He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. LEB 32 He who ignores instruction despises himself, but he who hears admonition gains heart. NIV 32 He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding. LEB 33 Fear of Yahweh [is] the instruction of the wise, and before honor [comes] humility. NIV 33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
