Proverbs 2

YLT 1 My son, if thou dost accept my sayings, And my commands dost lay up with thee, NIV 1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, YLT 2 To cause thine ear to attend to wisdom, Thou inclinest thy heart to understanding, NIV 2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, YLT 3 For, if for intelligence thou callest, For understanding givest forth thy voice, NIV 3 and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, YLT 4 If thou dost seek her as silver, And as hid treasures searchest for her, NIV 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, YLT 5 Then understandest thou fear of Jehovah, And knowledge of God thou findest. NIV 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. YLT 6 For Jehovah giveth wisdom, From His mouth knowledge and understanding. NIV 6 For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. YLT 7 Even to lay up for the upright substance, A shield for those walking uprightly. NIV 7 He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, YLT 8 To keep the paths of judgment, And the way of His saints He preserveth. NIV 8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. YLT 9 Then understandest thou righteousness, And judgment, and uprightness -- every good path. NIV 9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair--every good path. YLT 10 For wisdom cometh into thy heart, And knowledge to thy soul is pleasant, NIV 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. YLT 11 Thoughtfulness doth watch over thee, Understanding doth keep thee, NIV 11 Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. YLT 12 To deliver thee from an evil way, From any speaking froward things, NIV 12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, YLT 13 Who are forsaking paths of uprightness, To walk in ways of darkness, NIV 13 who leave the straight paths to walk in dark ways, YLT 14 Who are rejoicing to do evil, They delight in frowardness of the wicked, NIV 14 who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, YLT 15 Whose paths [are] crooked, Yea, they are perverted in their ways. NIV 15 whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways. YLT 16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, From the stranger who hath made smooth her sayings, NIV 16 It will save you also from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words, YLT 17 Who is forsaking the guide of her youth, And the covenant of her God hath forgotten. NIV 17 who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God. YLT 18 For her house hath inclined unto death, And unto Rephaim her paths. NIV 18 For her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead. YLT 19 None going in unto her turn back, Nor do they reach the paths of life. NIV 19 None who go to her return or attain the paths of life. YLT 20 That thou dost go in the way of the good, And the paths of the righteous dost keep. NIV 20 Thus you will walk in the ways of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous. YLT 21 For the upright do inhabit the earth, And the perfect are left in it, NIV 21 For the upright will live in the land, and the blameless will remain in it; YLT 22 And the wicked from the earth are cut off, And treacherous dealers plucked out of it! NIV 22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be torn from it.
