Proverbs 8

CSB 1 Doesn't Wisdom call out? Doesn't Understanding make her voice heard? NIV 1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? CSB 2 At the heights overlooking the road, at the crossroads, she takes her stand. NIV 2 On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; CSB 3 Beside the gates at the entry to the city, at the main entrance, she cries out: NIV 3 beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: CSB 4 "People, I call out to you; my cry is to mankind. NIV 4 "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. CSB 5 Learn to be shrewd, you who are inexperienced; develop common sense, you who are foolish. NIV 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding. CSB 6 Listen, for I speak of noble things, and what my lips say is right. NIV 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. CSB 7 For my mouth tells the truth, and wickedness is detestable to my lips. NIV 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. CSB 8 All the words of my mouth are righteous; none of them are deceptive or perverse. NIV 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. CSB 9 All of them are clear to the perceptive, and right to those who discover knowledge. NIV 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. CSB 10 Accept my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. NIV 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, CSB 11 For wisdom is better than precious stones, and nothing desirable can compare with it. NIV 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. CSB 12 I, Wisdom, share a home with shrewdness and have knowledge and discretion. NIV 12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. CSB 13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil. I hate arrogant pride, evil conduct, and perverse speech. NIV 13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. CSB 14 I possess good advice and competence; I have understanding and strength. NIV 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. CSB 15 It is by me that kings reign and rulers enact just law; NIV 15 By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just; CSB 16 by me, princes lead, as do nobles [and] all righteous judges. NIV 16 by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth. CSB 17 I love those who love me, and those who search for me find me. NIV 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. CSB 18 With me are riches and honor, lasting wealth and righteousness. NIV 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. CSB 19 My fruit is better than solid gold, and my harvest than pure silver. NIV 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver. CSB 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, NIV 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, CSB 21 giving wealth as an inheritance to those who love me, and filling their treasuries. NIV 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full. CSB 22 The Lord made me at the beginning of His creation, before His works of long ago. NIV 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; CSB 23 I was formed before ancient times, from the beginning, before the earth began. NIV 23 I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. CSB 24 I was brought forth when there were no watery depths and no springs filled with water. NIV 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; CSB 25 I was brought forth before the mountains and hills were established, NIV 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, CSB 26 before He made the land, the fields, or the first soil on earth. NIV 26 before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world. CSB 27 I was there when He established the heavens, when He laid out the horizon on the surface of the ocean, NIV 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, CSB 28 when He placed the skies above, when the fountains of the ocean gushed forth, NIV 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, CSB 29 when He set a limit for the sea so that the waters would not violate His command, when He laid out the foundations of the earth. NIV 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. CSB 30 I was a skilled craftsman beside Him. I was His delight every day, always rejoicing before Him. NIV 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, CSB 31 I was rejoicing in His inhabited world, delighting in the human race. NIV 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. CSB 32 And now, [my] sons, listen to me; those who keep my ways are happy. NIV 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. CSB 33 Listen to instruction and be wise; don't ignore it. NIV 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. CSB 34 Anyone who listens to me is happy, watching at my doors every day, waiting by the posts of my doorway. NIV 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. CSB 35 For the one who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, NIV 35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD. CSB 36 but the one who sins against me harms himself; all who hate me love death." NIV 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
