Psalm 102

CJB 1 Prayer of a sufferer overcome by weakness and pouring out his complaint before ADONAI: ADONAI, hear my prayer! Let my cry for help reach you! NIV 1 Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you. CJB 2 Don't hide your face from me when I am in such distress! Turn your ear toward me; when I call, be quick to reply! NIV 2 Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. CJB 3 For my days are vanishing like smoke, my bones are burning like a furnace. NIV 3 For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers. CJB 4 I am stricken and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food. NIV 4 My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food. CJB 5 Because of my loud groaning, I am just skin and bones. NIV 5 Because of my loud groaning I am reduced to skin and bones. CJB 6 I am like a great owl in the desert, I've become like an owl in the ruins. NIV 6 I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins. CJB 7 I lie awake and become like a bird alone on the roof. NIV 7 I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof. CJB 8 My enemies taunt me all day long; mad with rage, they make my name a curse. NIV 8 All day long my enemies taunt me; those who rail against me use my name as a curse. CJB 9 For I have been eating ashes like bread and mingling tears with my drink NIV 9 For I eat ashes as my food and mingle my drink with tears CJB 10 because of your furious anger, since you picked me up just to toss me aside. NIV 10 because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside. CJB 11 My days decline like an evening shadow; I am drying up like grass. NIV 11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass. CJB 12 But you, ADONAI, are enthroned forever; your renown will endure through all generations. NIV 12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations. CJB 13 You will arise and take pity on Tziyon, for the time has come to have mercy on her; the time determined has come. NIV 13 You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come. CJB 14 For your servants love her very stones; they take pity even on her dust. NIV 14 For her stones are dear to your servants; her very dust moves them to pity. CJB 15 The nations will fear the name of ADONAI and all the kings on earth your glory, NIV 15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory. CJB 16 when ADONAI has rebuilt Tziyon, and shows himself in his glory, NIV 16 For the LORD will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory. CJB 17 when he has heeded the plea of the poor and not despised their prayer. NIV 17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea. CJB 18 May this be put on record for a future generation; may a people yet to be created praise ADONAI. NIV 18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD: CJB 19 For he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven ADONAI surveys the earth NIV 19 "The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, CJB 20 to listen to the sighing of the prisoner, to set free those who are sentenced to death, NIV 20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death." CJB 21 to proclaim the name of ADONAI in Tziyon and his praise in Yerushalayim NIV 21 So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem CJB 22 when peoples and kingdoms have been gathered together to serve ADONAI. NIV 22 when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD. CJB 23 He has broken my strength in midcourse, he has cut short my days. NIV 23 In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days. CJB 24 I plead, "God, your years last through all generations; so don't take me away when my life is half over! NIV 24 So I said: "Do not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations. CJB 25 In the beginning, you laid the foundations of the earth; heaven is the work of your hands. NIV 25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. CJB 26 They will vanish, but you will remain; like clothing, they will all grow old; yes, you will change them like clothing, and they will pass away. NIV 26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. CJB 27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end. NIV 27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end. CJB 28 The children of your servants will live securely and their descendants be established in your presence." NIV 28 The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you."
