Psalm 132

MSG 1 O God, remember David, remember all his troubles! NIV 1 O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured. MSG 2 And remember how he promised God, made a vow to the Strong God of Jacob, NIV 2 He swore an oath to the LORD and made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: MSG 3 "I'm not going home, and I'm not going to bed, NIV 3 "I will not enter my house or go to my bed-- MSG 4 I'm not going to sleep, not even take time to rest, NIV 4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, MSG 5 Until I find a home for God, a house for the Strong God of Jacob." NIV 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." MSG 6 Remember how we got the news in Ephrathah, learned all about it at Jaar Meadows? NIV 6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: MSG 7 We shouted, "Let's go to the shrine dedication! Let's worship at God's own footstool!" NIV 7 "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-- MSG 8 Up, God, enjoy your new place of quiet repose, you and your mighty covenant ark; NIV 8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. MSG 9 Get your priests all dressed up in justice; prompt your worshipers to sing this prayer: NIV 9 May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy." MSG 10 "Honor your servant David; don't disdain your anointed one." NIV 10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed one. MSG 11 God gave David his word, he won't back out on this promise: "One of your sons I will set on your throne; NIV 11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-- MSG 12 If your sons stay true to my Covenant and learn to live the way I teach them, Their sons will continue the line - always a son to sit on your throne. NIV 12 if your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever." MSG 13 Yes - I, God, chose Zion, the place I wanted for my shrine; NIV 13 For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling: MSG 14 This will always be my home; this is what I want, and I'm here for good. NIV 14 "This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it-- MSG 15 I'll shower blessings on the pilgrims who come here, and give supper to those who arrive hungry; NIV 15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor will I satisfy with food. MSG 16 I'll dress my priests in salvation clothes; the holy people will sing their hearts out! NIV 16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will ever sing for joy. MSG 17 Oh, I'll make the place radiant for David! I'll fill it with light for my anointed! NIV 17 "Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. MSG 18 I'll dress his enemies in dirty rags, but I'll make his crown sparkle with splendor." NIV 18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown on his head will be resplendent."
