RHE 1 (131-1) <A gradual canticle.> O Lord, remember David, and all his meekness. NIV 1 O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured. RHE 2 (131-2) How he swore to the Lord, he vowed a vow to the God of Jacob: NIV 2 He swore an oath to the LORD and made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: RHE 3 (131-3) If I shall enter into the tabernacle of my house: if I shall go up into the bed wherein I lie: NIV 3 "I will not enter my house or go to my bed-- RHE 4 (131-4) If I shall give sleep to my eyes, or slumber to my eyelids, NIV 4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, RHE 5 (131-5) Or rest to my temples: until I find out a place for the Lord, a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. NIV 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." RHE 6 (131-6) Behold we have heard of it in Ephrata: we have found it in the fields of the wood. NIV 6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: RHE 7 (131-7) We will go into his tabernacle: we will adore in the place where his feet stood. NIV 7 "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-- RHE 8 (131-8) Arise, O Lord, into thy resting place: thou and the ark, which thou hast sanctified. NIV 8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. RHE 9 (131-9) Let thy priests be clothed with justice: and let thy saints rejoice. NIV 9 May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy." RHE 10 (131-10) For thy servant David’s sake, turn not away the face of thy anointed. NIV 10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed one. RHE 11 (131-11) The Lord hath sworn truth to David, and he will not make it void: of the fruit of thy womb I will set upon thy throne. NIV 11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-- RHE 12 (131-12) If thy children will keep my covenant, and these my testimonies which I shall teach them: Their children also for evermore shall sit upon thy throne. NIV 12 if your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever." RHE 13 (131-13) For the Lord hath chosen Sion: he hath chosen it for his dwelling. NIV 13 For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling: RHE 14 (131-14) This is my rest for ever and ever: here will I dwell, for I have chosen it. NIV 14 "This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it-- RHE 15 (131-15) Blessing I will bless her widow: I will satisfy her poor with bread. NIV 15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor will I satisfy with food. RHE 16 (131-16) I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall rejoice with exceeding great joy. NIV 16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will ever sing for joy. RHE 17 (131-17) There will I bring forth a horn to David: I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. NIV 17 "Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. RHE 18 (131-18) His enemies I will clothe with confusion: but upon him shall my sanctification flourish. NIV 18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown on his head will be resplendent."
