Psalm 17

MSG 1 Listen while I build my case, God, the most honest prayer you'll ever hear. NIV 1 Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer-- it does not rise from deceitful lips. MSG 2 Show the world I'm innocent - in your heart you know I am. NIV 2 May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right. MSG 3 Go ahead, examine me from inside out, surprise me in the middle of the night - You'll find I'm just what I say I am. My words don't run loose. NIV 3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin. MSG 4 I'm not trying to get my way in the world's way. I'm trying to get your way, your Word's way. NIV 4 As for the deeds of men-- by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent. MSG 5 I'm staying on your trail; I'm putting one foot In front of the other. I'm not giving up. NIV 5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped. MSG 6 I call to you, God, because I'm sure of an answer. So - answer! bend your ear! listen sharp! NIV 6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. MSG 7 Paint grace-graffiti on the fences; take in your frightened children who Are running from the neighborhood bullies straight to you. NIV 7 Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. MSG 8 Keep your eye on me; hide me under your cool wing feathers NIV 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings MSG 9 From the wicked who are out to get me, from mortal enemies closing in. NIV 9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me. MSG 10 Their hearts are hard as nails, their mouths blast hot air. NIV 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance. MSG 11 They are after me, nipping my heels, determined to bring me down, NIV 11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground. MSG 12 Lions ready to rip me apart, young lions poised to pounce. NIV 12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover. MSG 13 Up, God: beard them! break them! By your sword, free me from their clutches; NIV 13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword. MSG 14 Barehanded, God, break these mortals, these flat-earth people who can't think beyond today. I'd like to see their bellies swollen with famine food, The weeds they've sown harvested and baked into famine bread, With second helpings for their children and crusts for their babies to chew on. NIV 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children. MSG 15 And me? I plan on looking you full in the face. When I get up, I'll see your full stature and live heaven on earth. NIV 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
