Psalm 17

NLT 1 O , hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips. NIV 1 Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer-- it does not rise from deceitful lips. NLT 2 Declare me innocent, for you see those who do right. NIV 2 May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right. NLT 3 You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night. You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong. I am determined not to sin in what I say. NIV 3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin. NLT 4 I have followed your commands, which keep me from following cruel and evil people. NIV 4 As for the deeds of men-- by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent. NLT 5 My steps have stayed on your path; I have not wavered from following you. NIV 5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped. NLT 6 I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. NIV 6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. NLT 7 Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies. NIV 7 Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. NLT 8 Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. NIV 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings NLT 9 Protect me from wicked people who attack me, from murderous enemies who surround me. NIV 9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me. NLT 10 They are without pity. Listen to their boasting! NIV 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance. NLT 11 They track me down and surround me, watching for the chance to throw me to the ground. NIV 11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground. NLT 12 They are like hungry lions, eager to tear me apart— like young lions hiding in ambush. NIV 12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover. NLT 13 Arise, O ! Stand against them, and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with your sword! NIV 13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword. NLT 14 By the power of your hand, O , destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants. NIV 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children. NLT 15 Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied. NIV 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
