Psalm 18

WBT 1 To the chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day [that] the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. NIV 1 I love you, O LORD, my strength. WBT 2 The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, [and] my high tower. NIV 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. WBT 3 I will call upon the LORD, [who is worthy] to be praised: so shall I be saved from my enemies. NIV 3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. WBT 4 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. NIV 4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. WBT 5 The sorrows of hell encompassed me: the snares of death seized me. NIV 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. WBT 6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, [even] into his ears. NIV 6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. WBT 7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. NIV 7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. WBT 8 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. NIV 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. WBT 9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness [was] under his feet. NIV 9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. WBT 10 And he rode upon a cherub, and flew; yes, he flew upon the wings of the wind. NIV 10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. WBT 11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion around him [were] dark waters [and] thick clouds of the skies. NIV 11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky. WBT 12 At the brightness [that was] before him his thick clouds passed, hail [stones] and coals of fire. NIV 12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. WBT 13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail [stones] and coals of fire. NIV 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. WBT 14 Yes, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them. NIV 14 He shot his arrows and scattered [the enemies], great bolts of lightning and routed them. WBT 15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. NIV 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils. WBT 16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. NIV 16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. WBT 17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them who hated me: for they were too strong for me. NIV 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. WBT 18 They attacked me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay. NIV 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. WBT 19 He brought me forth also in a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. NIV 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. WBT 20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. NIV 20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. WBT 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. NIV 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God. WBT 22 For all his judgments [were] before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. NIV 22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. WBT 23 I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity. NIV 23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. WBT 24 Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. NIV 24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. WBT 25 With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt show thyself upright; NIV 25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, WBT 26 With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt contend. NIV 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. WBT 27 For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks. NIV 27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. WBT 28 For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. NIV 28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. WBT 29 For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall. NIV 29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. WBT 30 [As for] God, his way [is] perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he [is] a buckler to all those that trust in him. NIV 30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. WBT 31 For who [is] God save the LORD? or who [is] a rock save our God? NIV 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? WBT 32 [It is] God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. NIV 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. WBT 33 He maketh my feet like hinds' [feet], and setteth me upon my high places. NIV 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. WBT 34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms. NIV 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. WBT 35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath held me up and thy gentleness hath made me great. NIV 35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. WBT 36 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip. NIV 36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn. WBT 37 I have pursued my enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed. NIV 37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. WBT 38 I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they have fallen under my feet. NIV 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. WBT 39 For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. NIV 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. WBT 40 Thou hast also given me the necks of my enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me. NIV 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. WBT 41 They cried, but [there was] none to save [them]: [even] to the LORD, but he answered them not. NIV 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them-- to the LORD, but he did not answer. WBT 42 Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I cast them out as the dirt in the streets. NIV 42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets. WBT 43 Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; [and] thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people [whom] I have not known shall serve me. WBT 44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves to me. NIV 44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me. WBT 45 The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid from their close places. NIV 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds. WBT 46 The LORD liveth; and blessed [be] my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. NIV 46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
