Psalm 35

WEB 1 <<By David.>> Contend, Yahweh, with those who contend with me. Fight against those who fight against me. NIV 1 Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. WEB 2 Take hold of shield and buckler, And stand up for my help. NIV 2 Take up shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid. WEB 3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against those who pursue me. Tell my soul, "I am your salvation." NIV 3 Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to my soul, "I am your salvation." WEB 4 Let those who seek after my soul be put to shame and brought to dishonor. Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded. NIV 4 May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay. WEB 5 Let them be as chaff before the wind, The angel of Yahweh driving them on. NIV 5 May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them away; WEB 6 Let their way be dark and slippery, The angel of Yahweh pursuing them. NIV 6 may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them. WEB 7 For without cause have they hid their net in a pit for me. Without cause have they dug a pit for my soul. NIV 7 Since they hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me, WEB 8 Let destruction come on him unawares. Let his net that he has hidden catch himself. Into that destruction let him fall. NIV 8 may ruin overtake them by surprise-- may the net they hid entangle them, may they fall into the pit, to their ruin. WEB 9 My soul shall be joyful in Yahweh. It shall rejoice in his salvation. NIV 9 Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in his salvation. WEB 10 All my bones shall say, "Yahweh, who is like you, Who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him, Yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?" NIV 10 My whole being will exclaim, "Who is like you, O LORD? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them." WEB 11 Unrighteous witnesses rise up. They ask me about things that I don't know about. NIV 11 Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about. WEB 12 They reward me evil for good, To the bereaving of my soul. NIV 12 They repay me evil for good and leave my soul forlorn. WEB 13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting. My prayer returned into my own bosom. NIV 13 Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered, WEB 14 I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as one who mourns his mother. NIV 14 I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother. WEB 15 But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I didn't know it. They tore at me, and didn't cease. NIV 15 But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; attackers gathered against me when I was unaware. They slandered me without ceasing. WEB 16 Like the profane mockers in feasts, They gnashed their teeth at me. NIV 16 Like the ungodly they maliciously mocked; they gnashed their teeth at me. WEB 17 Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destruction, My precious life from the lions. NIV 17 O Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my life from their ravages, my precious life from these lions. WEB 18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly. I will praise you among many people. NIV 18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among throngs of people I will praise you. WEB 19 Don't let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; Neither let them wink with the eye who hate me without a cause. NIV 19 Let not those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; let not those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye. WEB 20 For they don't speak peace, But they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land. NIV 20 They do not speak peaceably, but devise false accusations against those who live quietly in the land. WEB 21 Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, "Aha! Aha! Our eye has seen it!" NIV 21 They gape at me and say, "Aha! Aha! With our own eyes we have seen it." WEB 22 You have seen it, Yahweh. Don't keep silent. Lord, don't be far from me. NIV 22 O LORD, you have seen this; be not silent. Do not be far from me, O Lord. WEB 23 Wake up! Rise up to defend me, my God! My Lord, contend for me! NIV 23 Awake, and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my God and Lord. WEB 24 Vindicate me, Yahweh my God, according to your righteousness; Don't let them gloat over me. NIV 24 Vindicate me in your righteousness, O LORD my God; do not let them gloat over me. WEB 25 Don't let them say in their heart, "Aha! That's the way we want it." Don't let them say, "We have swallowed him up!" NIV 25 Do not let them think, "Aha, just what we wanted!" or say, "We have swallowed him up." WEB 26 Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me. NIV 26 May all who gloat over my distress be put to shame and confusion; may all who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and disgrace. WEB 27 Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause. Yes, let them say continually, "Yahweh be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant!" NIV 27 May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, "The LORD be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant." WEB 28 My tongue shall talk about your righteousness and about your praise all day long. NIV 28 My tongue will speak of your righteousness and of your praises all day long.
