Psalm 37

BBE 1 <Of David.> Do not be angry because of the wrongdoers, or have envy of the workers of evil. NIV 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; BBE 2 For they will quickly be cut down like grass, and become dry like the green plants. NIV 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. BBE 3 Have faith in the Lord, and do good; be at rest in the land, and go after righteousness. NIV 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. BBE 4 So will your delight be in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires. NIV 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. BBE 5 Put your life in the hands of the Lord; have faith in him and he will do it. NIV 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: BBE 6 And he will make your righteousness be seen like the light, and your cause like the shining of the sun. NIV 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. BBE 7 Take your rest in the Lord, waiting quietly for him; do not be angry because of the man who does well in his evil ways, and gives effect to his bad designs. NIV 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. BBE 8 Put an end to your wrath and be no longer bitter; do not give way to angry feeling which is a cause of sin. NIV 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. BBE 9 For the evil-doers will be cut off: but those who have faith in the Lord will have the earth for their heritage. NIV 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. BBE 10 For in a short time the evil-doer will be gone: you will go searching for his place, and it will not be there. NIV 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. BBE 11 But the gentle will have the earth for their heritage; they will take their delight in peace without measure. NIV 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace. BBE 12 The sinner has evil designs against the upright, lifting up the voice of wrath against him. NIV 12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; BBE 13 He will be laughed at by the Lord, who sees that his day is coming. NIV 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. BBE 14 The evil-doers have taken out their swords, their bows are bent; for crushing the poor, and to put to death those who are upright in their ways. NIV 14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. BBE 15 But their swords will be turned into their hearts, and their bows will be broken. NIV 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. BBE 16 The little which the good man has is better than the wealth of evil-doers. NIV 16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; BBE 17 For the arms of the evil-doers will be broken: but the Lord is the support of the good. NIV 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. BBE 18 The days of the upright are numbered by the Lord, and their heritage will be for ever. NIV 18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever. BBE 19 They will not be shamed in the evil time, and in the days when all are in need of food they will have enough. NIV 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. BBE 20 But the wrongdoers will come to destruction, and the haters of the Lord will be like the fat of lambs, they will be burned up; they will go up in smoke, and never again be seen. NIV 20 But the wicked will perish: The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke. BBE 21 The sinner takes money and does not give it back; but the upright man has mercy, and gives to others. NIV 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; BBE 22 Those who have his blessing will have the earth for their heritage; but those who are cursed by him will be cut off. NIV 22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off. BBE 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he takes delight in his way. NIV 23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; BBE 24 Even if he has a fall he will not be without help: for the hand of the Lord is supporting him. NIV 24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. BBE 25 I have been young, and now am old, but I have not seen the good man without help, or his children looking for bread. NIV 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. BBE 26 All the day he is ready to have mercy and to give; his children are a blessing. NIV 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed. BBE 27 Be turned from evil, and do good; and your place will be for ever. NIV 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. BBE 28 For the Lord is a lover of righteousness, and takes care of his saints; they will be kept safe for ever; but the seed of the evil-doers will be cut off. NIV 28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off; BBE 29 The upright will have the earth for their heritage, and will go on living there for ever. NIV 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. BBE 30 The mouth of the good man says words of wisdom; the talk of his tongue is of righteousness. NIV 30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. BBE 31 The law of his God is in his heart; he will never make a false step. NIV 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip. BBE 32 The sinners are watching the upright man, desiring to put him to death. NIV 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives; BBE 33 The Lord will not give him into their hands, or be against him when he is judged. NIV 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial. BBE 34 Be waiting for the Lord, and keep his way; and you will be lifted up, and have the land for your heritage: when the evil-doers are cut off, you will see it. NIV 34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. BBE 35 I have seen the evil-doer in great power, covering the earth like a great tree. NIV 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil, BBE 36 But he came to an end, and there was no sign of him; I made a search for him and he was not there. NIV 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. BBE 37 Give attention to the good man, and take note of the upright; because the end of that man is peace. NIV 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace. BBE 38 But as for the sinners, they will be cut off together; the end of the wrongdoers is destruction. NIV 38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. BBE 39 But the Lord is the saviour of the upright: he is their strength in the time of trouble. NIV 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. BBE 40 And the Lord will be their help, and keep them safe: he will take them out of the hands of the evil-doers, and be their saviour, because they had faith in him. NIV 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
