Psalm 37

LEB 1 Do not fret because of evildoers; do not be envious of doers of wickedness. NIV 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; LEB 2 For like the grass they will dry up quickly, and like green vegetation they will wither. NIV 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. LEB 3 Trust Yahweh and do good. Abide [in the] land and feed on faithfulness. NIV 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. LEB 4 Take pleasure in Yahweh as well, and he will give to you the requests of your heart. NIV 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. LEB 5 {Commit to} Yahweh your way; Trust also on him and he will act. NIV 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: LEB 6 Then he will bring forth your righteousness like the light, and your justice like the noonday. NIV 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. LEB 7 Be quiet before Yahweh and wait for him. Do not fret about one who succeeds [in] his way, about a man making plots. NIV 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. LEB 8 Refrain from anger and forsake wrath. Do not fret; [it] only brings evil. NIV 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. LEB 9 For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for Yahweh-- they will possess [the] land. NIV 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. LEB 10 And yet a little [while] and the wicked will not be, and you will look carefully upon his place, but he will not be. NIV 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. LEB 11 But [the] afflicted will possess [the] land, and they will take pleasure in an abundance of peace. NIV 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace. LEB 12 [The] wicked plans [evil] against the righteous, and gnashes at him [with] his teeth. NIV 12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; LEB 13 [The] Lord laughs at him, for he sees that his day is coming. NIV 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. LEB 14 [The] wicked have drawn [the] sword and have bent their bow to throw down [the] poor and [the] needy, to kill [those] upright in [their] way. NIV 14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. LEB 15 Their sword will enter into their [own] heart, and their bows shall be broken. NIV 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. LEB 16 [The] little belonging to the righteous [is] better than [the] wealth of many wicked. NIV 16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; LEB 17 For [the] arms of [the] wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh supports [the] righteous. NIV 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. LEB 18 Yahweh knows [the] days of [the] blameless, and their inheritance will be forever. NIV 18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever. LEB 19 They will not be put to shame in distressing times, and in [the] days of famine they will be satisfied. NIV 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. LEB 20 But [the] wicked will perish, and the enemies of Yahweh [will be] like [the] splendor of [the] pastures. They vanish; in smoke they vanish. NIV 20 But the wicked will perish: The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke. LEB 21 [The] wicked borrows and does not repay, but [the] righteous [is] gracious and gives. NIV 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; LEB 22 For those blessed [by] him shall possess [the] land, but those cursed [by] him shall be cut off. NIV 22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off. LEB 23 [The] steps of a man are established by Yahweh, and he takes pleasure in his way. NIV 23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; LEB 24 Though he fall, he will not be cast headlong, for Yahweh supports [him with] his hand. NIV 24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. LEB 25 I was a youth, but I am [now] old; yet I have not seen [the] righteous forsaken or his children {begging for} bread. NIV 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. LEB 26 All the day he [is] gracious and lends, and his children [are] a blessing. NIV 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed. LEB 27 Turn aside from evil and do good and [so] abide forever. NIV 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. LEB 28 For Yahweh loves justice and will not forsake his faithful ones. They are protected forever. But [the] children of [the] wicked will be cut off. NIV 28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off; LEB 29 [The] righteous will possess [the] land and abide in it forever. NIV 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. LEB 30 [The] mouth of [the] righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. NIV 30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. LEB 31 The law of his God [is] in his heart. His steps will not slip. NIV 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip. LEB 32 [The] wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to kill him. NIV 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives; LEB 33 Yahweh will not abandon him into his hand, and he will not let him be condemned when he is judged. NIV 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial. LEB 34 Wait for Yahweh and keep his way, and he will exalt you to possess [the] land. When [the] wicked are cut off, you will see [it]. NIV 34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. LEB 35 I have seen [the] wicked acting violently and spreading himself out like a luxuriant native tree. NIV 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil, LEB 36 Then he passed on and behold, he was not. And I sought him, but he could not be found. NIV 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. LEB 37 Observe [the] blameless and look at [the] upright, for [there is] a future for a man of peace. NIV 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace. LEB 38 But transgressors shall be destroyed altogether. [The] future of [the] wicked shall be cut off. NIV 38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. LEB 39 And [the] salvation of [the] righteous [is] from Yahweh, their refuge in [the] time of trouble. NIV 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. LEB 40 And Yahweh helps them and he rescues them. He rescues them from [the] wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him. NIV 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
