Psalm 38

GNT 1 O Lord, don't punish me in your anger! NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. GNT 2 You have wounded me with your arrows; you have struck me down. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. GNT 3 Because of your anger, I am in great pain; my whole body is diseased because of my sins. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. GNT 4 I am drowning in the flood of my sins; they are a burden too heavy to bear. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. GNT 5 Because I have been foolish, my sores stink and rot. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. GNT 6 I am bent over, I am crushed; I mourn all day long. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. GNT 7 I am burning with fever and I am near death. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. GNT 8 I am worn out and utterly crushed; my heart is troubled, and I groan with pain. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. GNT 9 O Lord, you know what I long for; you hear all my groans. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. GNT 10 My heart is pounding, my strength is gone, and my eyes have lost their brightness. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. GNT 11 My friends and neighbors will not come near me, because of my sores; even my family keeps away from me. NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. GNT 12 Those who want to kill me lay traps for me, and those who want to hurt me threaten to ruin me; they never stop plotting against me. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. GNT 13 I am like the deaf and cannot hear, like the dumb and cannot speak. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; GNT 14 I am like those who do not answer, because they cannot hear. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. GNT 15 But I trust in you, O Lord; and you, O Lord my God, will answer me. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. GNT 16 Don't let my enemies gloat over my distress; don't let them boast about my downfall! NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." GNT 17 I am about to fall and am in constant pain. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. GNT 18 I confess my sins; they fill me with anxiety. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. GNT 19 My enemies are healthy and strong; there are many who hate me for no reason. NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. GNT 20 Those who pay back evil for good are against me because I try to do right. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. GNT 21 Do not abandon me, O Lord; do not stay away, my God! NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. GNT 22 Help me now, O Lord my savior! NIV 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
