Psalm 38

NCV 1 Lord, don't correct me when you are angry. Don't punish me when you are furious. NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. NCV 2 Your arrows have wounded me, and your hand has come down on me. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. NCV 3 My body is sick from your punishment. Even my bones are not healthy because of my sin. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. NCV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me; like a load it weighs me down. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. NCV 5 My sores stink and become infected because I was foolish. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. NCV 6 I am bent over and bowed down; I am sad all day long. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. NCV 7 I am burning with fever, and my whole body is sore. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. NCV 8 I am weak and faint. I moan from the pain I feel. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. NCV 9 Lord, you know everything I want; my cries are not hidden from you. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. NCV 10 My heart pounds, and my strength is gone. I am losing my sight. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. NCV 11 Because of my wounds, my friends and neighbors avoid me, and my relatives stay far away. NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. NCV 12 Some people set traps to kill me. Those who want to hurt me plan trouble; all day long they think up lies. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. NCV 13 I am like a deaf man; I cannot hear. Like a mute, I cannot speak. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; NCV 14 I am like a person who does not hear, who has no answer to give. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. NCV 15 I trust you, Lord. You will answer, my Lord and God. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. NCV 16 I said, "Don't let them laugh at me or brag when I am defeated." NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." NCV 17 I am about to die, and I cannot forget my pain. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. NCV 18 I confess my guilt; I am troubled by my sin. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. NCV 19 My enemies are strong and healthy, and many hate me for no reason. NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. NCV 20 They repay me with evil for the good I did. They lie about me because I try to do good. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. NCV 21 Lord, don't leave me; my God, don't go away. NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. NCV 22 Quickly come and help me, my Lord and Savior. For the director of music.
