Psalm 38

RHE 1 (37-1) <A psalm for David, for a remembrance of the sabbath.> (37-2) Rebuke me not, O Lord, in thy indignation; nor chastise me in thy wrath. NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. RHE 2 (37-3) For thy arrows are fastened in me: and thy hand hath been strong upon me. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. RHE 3 (37-4) There is no health in my flesh, because of thy wrath: there is no peace for my bones, because of my sins. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. RHE 4 (37-5) For my iniquities are gone over my head: and as a heavy burden are become heavy upon me. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. RHE 5 (37-6) My sores are putrefied and corrupted, because of my foolishness. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. RHE 6 (37-7) I am become miserable, and am bowed down even to the end: I walked sorrowful all the day long. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. RHE 7 (37-8) For my loins are filled with illusions; and there is no health in my flesh. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. RHE 8 (37-9) I am afflicted and humbled exceedingly: I roared with the groaning of my heart. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. RHE 9 (37-10) Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my groaning is not hidden from thee. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. RHE 10 (37-11) My heart is troubled, my strength hath left me, and the light of my eyes itself is not with me. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. RHE 11 (37-12) My friends and my neighbours have drawn near, and stood against me. And they that were near me stood afar off: NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. RHE 12 (37-13) And they that sought my soul used violence. And they that sought evils to me spoke vain things, and studied deceits all the day long. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. RHE 13 (37-14) But I, as a deaf man, heard not: and as a dumb man not opening his mouth. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; RHE 14 (37-15) And I became as a man that heareth not: and that hath no reproofs in his mouth. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. RHE 15 (37-16) For in thee, O Lord, have I hoped: thou wilt hear me, O Lord my God. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. RHE 16 (37-17) For I said: Lest at any time my enemies rejoice over me: and whilst my feet are moved, they speak great things against me. NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." RHE 17 (37-18) For I am ready for scourges: and my sorrow is continually before me. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. RHE 18 (37-19) For I will declare my iniquity: and I will think of my sin. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. RHE 19 (37-20) But my enemies live, and are stronger than I: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. RHE 20 (37-21) They that render evil for good, have detracted me, because I followed goodness. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. RHE 21 (37-22) For sake me not, O Lord my God: do not thou depart from me. NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. RHE 22 (37-23) Attend unto my help, O Lord, the God of my salvation. NIV 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
