Psalm 38

YLT 1 A Psalm of David, `To cause to remember.' Jehovah, in Thy wrath reprove me not, Nor in Thy fury chastise me. NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. YLT 2 For Thine arrows have come down on me, And Thou lettest down upon me Thy hand. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. YLT 3 Soundness is not in my flesh, Because of Thine indignation, Peace is not in my bones because of my sin. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. YLT 4 For mine iniquities have passed over my head, As a heavy burden -- too heavy for me. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. YLT 5 Stunk -- become corrupt have my wounds, Because of my folly. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. YLT 6 I have been bent down, I have been bowed down -- unto excess, All the day I have gone mourning. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. YLT 7 For my flanks have been full of drought, And soundness is not in my flesh. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. YLT 8 I have been feeble and smitten -- unto excess, I have roared from disquietude of heart. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. YLT 9 Lord, before Thee [is] all my desire, And my sighing from Thee hath not been hid. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. YLT 10 My heart [is] panting, my power hath forsaken me, And the light of mine eyes, Even they are not with me. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. YLT 11 My lovers and my friends over-against my plague stand. And my neighbours afar off have stood. NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. YLT 12 And those seeking my soul lay a snare, And those seeking my evil Have spoken mischievous things, And they do deceits meditate all the day. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. YLT 13 And I, as deaf, hear not. And as a dumb one who openeth not his mouth. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; YLT 14 Yea, I am as a man who heareth not, And in his mouth are no reproofs. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. YLT 15 Because for Thee, O Jehovah, I have waited, Thou dost answer, O Lord my God. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. YLT 16 When I said, `Lest they rejoice over me, In the slipping of my foot against me they magnified themselves. NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." YLT 17 For I am ready to halt, And my pain [is] before me continually. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. YLT 18 For mine iniquity I declare, I am sorry for my sin. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. YLT 19 And mine enemies [are] lively, They have been strong, and those hating me without cause, Have been multiplied. NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. YLT 20 And those paying evil for good accuse me, Because of my pursuing good. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. YLT 21 Do not forsake me, O Jehovah, My God, be not far from me, NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. YLT 22 Haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! NIV 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
