Psalm 5

NLT 1 O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. NIV 1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. NLT 2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I will never pray to anyone but you. NIV 2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. NLT 3 Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. NIV 3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. NLT 4 O God, you take no pleasure in wickedness; you cannot tolerate the slightest sin. NIV 4 You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell. NLT 5 Therefore, the proud will not be allowed to stand in your presence, for you hate all who do evil. NIV 5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong. NLT 6 You will destroy those who tell lies. The LORD detests murderers and deceivers. NIV 6 You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors. NLT 7 Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; with deepest awe I will worship at your Temple. NIV 7 But I, by your great mercy, will come into your house; in reverence will I bow down toward your holy temple. NLT 8 Lead me in the right path, O LORD, or my enemies will conquer me. Tell me clearly what to do, and show me which way to turn. NIV 8 Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies-- make straight your way before me. NLT 9 My enemies cannot speak one truthful word. Their deepest desire is to destroy others. Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their speech is filled with flattery. NIV 9 Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with destruction. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongue they speak deceit. NLT 10 O God, declare them guilty. Let them be caught in their own traps. Drive them away because of their many sins, for they rebel against you. NIV 10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you. NLT 11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Protect them, so all who love your name may be filled with joy. NIV 11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. NLT 12 For you bless the godly, O LORD, surrounding them with your shield of love. NIV 12 For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
